My Recommendations – Week 27

As I mentioned in my last post, I promised to kick off the week with some nice recommendations from me to you. If you guys like this type of content I think this will be one of those things I’ll post every Monday or something.

Here’s some awesome stuff for you to check out this week:

Recipe of the week:

Tunacado sandwiches with avocado, creamy tuna and gluten free bread. For those of you who don’t read Swedish, here’s the recipe (3-4 sandwiches):

  • 1-2 avocados
  • 400g tuna in water (canned)
  • 1-2 tablespoons mayo
  • 2-3 tablespoons yoghurt
  • spring onion (the green, leafy part) – I like to add lots, but you decide based on preference. I would suggest at least a few of these
  • 1 chili/chiliflakes
  • 1 lime
  • Chopped dill (again, amount at your preference)
  • Salt, pepper
  • Tomato (optional)
  • Gluten free bread (I get mine at Kitchen Garden in Bandra – anything works. In the recipe they’ve used regular rye bread)
  1. Empty out the water from the tuna can, put in bowl. Chop avocado, spring onion, dill. Mix with tuna, add mayo and yoghurt. Squeeze in lime, add chili, salt, pepper
  2. Grill the bread on high temperature in the pan with a bit of olive oil and salt (or toast in regular toaster). Put on bread, and add tomato if you’d like (I like). Add second piece of bread, and wrap up in paper or foil. Voila! Best lunch to bring to office or for whenever you’re on the go!

Song of the week:

An old classic, Sylvia’s Mother by Dr. Hook [click!], and I’ve been playing it on repeat ever since I heard it on TV the other night. The song reminds me of my childhood in Saudi – my dad used to play Dr. Hook on Friday nights while my parents made dinner together, so it brings me straight back to that end of the week, Friday feeling and the late 90’s…

Show of the week:

Fargo, Season 2!!! If you haven’t watched it–watch now. If not now, then start when you get home tonight. Saif and I watch a lot of shows between the two of us, and we both agreed that Fargo’s Season 2 is, by far, the best show we have ever watched. That’s some good feedback right there. It also got a solid 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. From the way its shot, to the script, to the cast and the overall storyline. From start to finish – pure brilliance. I also love these shows just being one season. I’m way too impatient to deal with a year or two of waiting in between seasons. P.S. Fargo Season 1 was also amazing, so watch that first if you haven’t already. P.P.S. Both Season 1 and 2 is available on Netflix!

Article of the week:

A brief yet insightful article about perspectives on race. [click!]

 

Book of the week:

East of Eden, written by Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck in 1952. I haven’t read this book but its on my list of must-reads, having read The Grapes of Wrath twice back in college. “The story is about a family that suffers so much drama and pain because of choices they think they have to make. If you don’t break a cycle of bad choices, the cycle never ends. The most important word from the book is timshel — it’s a Hebrew word that translates to- thou mayest. I understood it to mean “you can if you want to.” It reiterated to me how important our choices are and that we are in control of our destiny.” You can find it on Amazon.in/.com etc [click!]

Dream destination of the week:

Lisbon in Portugal! The more I hear about the city, the more I want to go. One of my best friends, Elin, shared this amazing list of recommendations with me. Goal of the week:

My personal goal of the week is to try and be kinder to myself, and do at least two days of yoga. I tend to judge myself too hard sometimes–be too hard on myself. On top of that, I have a really busy week ahead, with a weekend already set in stone from Friday to Sunday. Yoga would be a nice way to keep the body relaxed & flexible with the weight training and boxing I’m doing twice/week, but also to just dedicate an hour to myself to clear the mind.  I wish I was one of those people who do and practice these things regularly. Priorities, priorities…
