Adidas x Alexander Wang (& walking my first fashion show)

IMG_3032

I realised I haven’t yet told you guys about the fashion show I worked for the launch of Adidas x Alexander Wang, Pharrell and Crazy 8 in Mumbai this week…

Kshitij, an incredibly talented friend of mine, was leading the production of the show.  Kshitij is one of the most successful/humble people I know, and its really amazing to see how he’s just doing what he love, while making massive waves in the industry. True inspiration yo!

Light and sound guys were setting up for the night…

IMG_3048

…while all the models were taking turns practicing our walk and preparing for the show.

IMG_3052

I’m a true Nike fan at heart, but Adidas really has got their partnerships on point. Just one amazing collaboration after the other…

IMG_3053

Kshitij was there the full day, to oversee all our run-throughs…

IMG_3055

The show consisted of about 25 of us, where half the group were actual models from different modelling agencies, and the other half consisted of influencers from different creative fields…

IMG_3054

The idea was that we should all walk as ourselves, and let our personalities come out in the show.

IMG_3056

We were the first group out, walking for the Adidas x Alexander Wang collaboration. After us was the Pharrell group, and lastly the Crazy 8 crew…

IMG_3057

This guy is always smiling too. Always busy, never rushed. I’m watching and learning over here!

IMG_3058

It was a long day of waiting and hanging around, which also meant I met a lot of new, fun people throughout the day. We arrived around 12.30 and wrapped up by 10.30pm. I was sitting with my laptop in between practice, answering emails and catering to other work, trying to make use of the downtime.

IMG_3059

By the time lunch was served the time was almost 4pm, and everyone just dug into their lunch boxes back in the green room. It was half an hour of absolute silence–everyone had been dying to break for lunch at this point!

IMG_3060

After lunch, it was time for hair and makeup. Clover was in charge of the hair and she’s both lovely and incredibly talented. I was surrounded by so much talent all day–really impressed by everyone’s hard work. Because that’s what setting up a show like this entails. Hard. Work.

IMG_3028

I met Namrata for the first time and we ended up spending most of the day together. Such a gorgeous human being! And of course, representing Rheson.

IMG_3027

After hair and makeup, it was time to get dressed. The green room didn’t have an AC, so it was sooo hot all day. Everyone was standing in line in front of the fans and coolers downstairs–especially considering most of the clothes were for fall and winter collections. Jumpers, sweaters, double layers, raincoats and winter jackets. And 35 degree heat.

IMG_3026

Since they had limited shoes for each collection, I was wearing a pair of men’s sneakers. My shoe size is women’s US 8. I was walking in a men’s US 10. You know the feeling when you’re walking with swim-feet on land before jumping into the water? That feeling.

Waiting and waiting and waiting…

2/3’rds of the Alexander Wang fam…

The theme of our looks was something along the lines of winter/frost, so the hair was covered in organic clay face-masks, then painted with white hair-paint. Our eyelashes were covered in white powder, which was actually sugarfree sugar from Starbucks. Go figure!

The entrance of the store was set up really nicely…

IMG_3034

Almost show-time… I felt so naked – the makeup was basically nothing at all, and I kept begging the makeup team for some nude coloured lipstick. Something! But nope–not allowed.

IMG_2975

The show went really well, despite my fear of tripping in my massive shoes. I had filled half the shoe with three extra soles and a ton of tissue paper…

IMG_2972

Saif’s best friend Aditya was having his marriage ceremony in town on the same night, and I had told him he should stay there and be with his friends instead of rushing for the show…

IMG_2981

…still, I noticed him front-row, cheering for me with the camera out. Even though I had told myself it wouldn’t matter if he came, because he had somewhere else more important to be, it made me so happy to see him there. He made it to the wedding ceremony and then right in time for the show. So sweet. And hey, that’s what family is for right?

After our three groups did our walk, it was time for the finale. On top of our already layered clothing, everyone wore the same white winter jacket for the last walk. They did some really cool light and sound effects for the finale – whoever was in charge of light and sound, well done you too!

IMG_3044

Post show turned into a party…

IMG_3045

I mingled around for 15 minutes or so…

Saif and I grabbed dinner and then headed straight home to bed…

I was worried about getting the clay and paint out of my hair. At this point I had been wearing it for over six hours, and the coating was rock hard… It turned out to be an easy battle though. The clay and paint washed off in seconds, thankfully.

I’m so grateful to Kshitij and Adidas for having me be part of the show. It was a first for me, but hopefully not the last. And cheers to all the hard workers out there!
