Weekend recap

I was supposed to post this yesterday, but I guess it never uploaded. Either way, here’s a snapshot into my weekend…

IMG_4904

I started my Saturday morning with a 9.30am meeting. Remember the project I told you about recently, that I can’t really talk about? We met to discuss that project.

IMG_4903

Lynn, Amrita and I had a breakfast meeting at the Village Shop that lasted until it was time for me to leave for lunch…

IMG_4905

Then I met Saif for a delicious salmon with truffle oil, mushrooms, micro greens, lemon, and baked sweet potato. It was as tasty as it looks and sounds!

IMG_4906

And got a chance to catch up with my love. As long as either of us isn’t traveling, we have at least one meal together every day – sometimes two (or three).

IMG_4909

After lunch I took an Uber and went to check out the Stylecracker market at the racecourse…

IMG_4908

Shehla had a stall there so I spent some time hanging out with her team and chat with a few customers…

IMG_4907

My friend Arpita’s brand was set up right next to Shehla’s…

IMG_4910

Then I had a glass of sangria with my friend Shaan. Shaan organises all the food for Stylecracker’s events. We do so many work collaborations together, but we never get a photo of the two of us. Sad I had to ruin this by talking to the photographer…

IMG_4911

Then I ran into beautiful Anushka, who was also set up at the market, to showcase her new brand collab. They make these super cute pouches which you tie around your waist. She’s wearing one in the photo…

IMG_4913

On Sunday morning my camera died, and the charger was left at home. I had brunch with Saif and Shehla, and by afternoon I got restless and went to check out the Lil Flea market with Paulina…

IMG_4912

It was SO crowded. I’m quite impressed with how well organised the market is. It was my first time visiting, but I’ll definitely be back…

IMG_4916

They had these quirky signs put up all over the festival/market area…

IMG_4915

There was a live band playing, and people were hanging out picnicking, eating, drinking and having a good time…

IMG_4917

They even had a stall where you could rent your favourite boardgames and play in the grass somewhere with friends…

Then my camera died again, so that’s that. It was a fun weekend anyhow – lots of flea markets and food.

Now it’s Tuesday and it happens to be an extra special day today… X

Here’s what you need:

Pasta (bucatini is my favourite), chili flakes, canned/crushed tomatoes, parmesan, garlic, fresh basil, and bacon (you can skip the pork if you’re not into it obviously). You can add olives too if you’d like, but I added them for decoration and ate them as a snack while cooking…

IMG_4616

Cook the bacon in the pan – light if you don’t want it too crispy. You’ll cook it again in the tomato sauce later, so don’t overdo it initially. Also thicker bacon is better for this dish – technically it’s supposed to be guanciale, but let’s just say, here in Bombay we’ll take what we have.

IMG_4617

I’m very bad at shredding cheese, but yeah – shred cheese while waiting.

IMG_4618

Remove the bacon from the pan, but keep the oil/fat you’ve cooked it in. Decrease the temperature to something very low. Fry the basil and garlic without burning it. Disclaimer: Smells like heaven in a pan basically. Important to make sure it doesn’t burn though.

IMG_4619

Remember when you were a kid and your mom broke the pasta in half to fit it into the pot? Well. Never break your pasta in half. Ever. Wet the first half of the pasta (30 seconds?), then gently squeeze the pasta into the pot. Or just get a bigger pot I guess. But don’t break it.

IMG_4620

Pour the tomatoes into the pot with the basil and the garlic. Cook on low temperature. Add the bacon. Let it cook for 5-10 minutes more, all together.

IMG_4621

Add the al dente (!) pasta to the sauce, throw on some parmesan and serve immediately or your entire dish will get spoiled. Please make sure you under-cook it. Please.

IMG_4622

You can add some more pepper and more parmesan if you’d like.

This took me about 10 minutes to make. Delicious and super easy.

Enjoy!

Top-3 best & worst things with my week so far

Good morning!

I’m at my usual morning spot – Sequel, in Kala Ghoda. I’ll really miss having my solo mornings here when I move from Colaba back to Bandra… Because yes, that’s what’s up! As a part of my process of resigning and starting off on my own, I’ve decided to move back to Bandra. I absolutely love my flat, but I’m never home. Except for having my office this side of town, I spend about 4-5 nights home every month. I could technically stay in a 5-star hotel once a week for the same money I pay for my rent.

So, in the middle of proposals, full-time work, a fashion shoot for Saif’s sister’s brand, and some meetings for WAC, I’m going to see some more flats today with my broker. May as well do it all in one go, right?

What else is new? Below are a few of my thoughts on some recent high’s and low’s…

3 worst things about this week so far

  • My stomach. It’s consistently bad. Not even bad – it’s terrible. I did a bunch of tests and everything is clear/pointing towards lactose intolerance. I’ve tried cutting out dairy entirely this week… What is even weirder is that my stomach tends to get better the second I leave Indian soil. I won’t even change my diet. Is it the air?! Seriously. Stay tuned for progress update…
  • I still haven’t booked my ticket home, because I’m waiting for an update on some visa related stuff. I’m dying to go home, and I miss my family. It would be so nice to be home for Valborg (a Swedish tradition where we celebrate spring)
  • The flush on my toilet broke. Every time I flush my bathroom gets flooded. I guess this is a very silly problem to have – so I’m blessed, really. Blessed with a leaking flush.

3 best things about this week so far

  • All the changes that are happening in my life right now – I feel so happy, light and energised! It’s like I’ve been waiting to get here for so long, and now it’s finally happening. Slightly scary, but so exciting.
  • My business cards! I may have driven my graphic designer mad in the process, but I’m so excited about my new business card design. And we’re redesigning the logo for WAC. Showing you, soon!
  • It’s my birthday next week! On Tuesday, in fact. Saif and I are trying to decide whether we should go to Bangkok next weekend, for a mini-getaway. If work allows, that’s what we’ll do. Please share all your Bangkok recommendations with me!
